If you see some of our youth baking cookies and selling them between services on Sunday, you aren't seeing things! They will be working the cookie station over the next few Sundays in an effort to raise money for their trip this July to the Higher Things Youth Conference being held at the University of Nevada. So please stop by, pick up a cookie and if you can donate a little extra to support their trip The youth thank you for your generosity!
After a year and a half of faithful service, Messiah's office Secretary, Hillary Saalfeld is leaving us in June. We congratulate Hillary for her graduation from the University of Washington and wish her God's blessings on the next step in her life. This however leaves a vacancy in the church office. The Executive Board is seeking resumes for a permanent Secretary. This position includes health care benefits. A detailed job description is available in the church office. Resumes will be accepted until May 29 and the Executive Board will do the hiring. Please direct questions and submit all resumes directly to church President, Neil Strege. He can be reached at 425.269.8530 or neilstrege@gmail.com. This position is important to all aspects of Messiah's work so all interested members should prayerfully consider applying.
DON’T FORGET to get your recipes in! The deadline is quickly approaching! Contact Hillary by June 1st at 206.524.0024.
Coming August 22-26, 2011! This year’s Continuing Education Class “No More ‘Peek-a-Boo’ Jesus: Christology of the Old Testament.” Cost for the class will be $150.00. Today in Sunday School: As it was for Peter, so it is for us is the message (Acts 12). The Word of God is never proclaimed in vain. Though we suffer because of the sin of others, God’s will is done. Talk to your children about modern day persecution of the church of God and how, even in the midst of persecution, God sustains and increases His Church. How does God’s Word break through the chains of our sin and the suffering it causes?
CHRISTOLOGICAL CREEDAL, CONFESSIONAL... Issues, Etc. is a radio talk show hosted by LCMS Pastor Todd Wilken and produced by Lutheran Public Radio. Topics include: The Ascension of Christ, Mary Visits Elizabeth, Justin Martyr, The Athanasian Creed and more. You can listen to what you want when you want at www.issuesetc.org.
Congratulations! On Friday, May 20th, both Trevor Mankin and Gail Ludvigson graduated from the Fort Wayne Seminary. We wish them God’s blessing on this great accomplishment. Exciting things are in their futures. While Trevor prepares for his return to Messiah Lutheran Church, Gail is seeking placement with Lutheran Bible Translators in Aurora, Illinois. Please look on the upstairs bulletin board for Trevor’s acceptance letter.
How you can serve in your church
New schedules will be coming out in the end of June. Would you like to serve in your church? There are many ways and opportunities you can help.
Children’s Message presenter: You are given helpful messages for your assigned Sunday to assist you in your short 3 minute presentation to the children. (Must be approved by Pastor)
Transportation: We have local members who require a ride to church. This usually would take one Sunday a month per driver.
Readers: Reading the weekly lesson during the service. Each reader is mailed their readings in advance to practice, high school age and above.
Ushers: Join a current team of ushers. It’s a simple but important job! High schoolers too!
Greeters: It is always nice to be greeted at the door and warmly welcomed. Have a “touch” phobia? That’s okay, there is no need to shake hands, just give a warm welcome.(High school and above)
Cookie Makers: Love to make cookies and enjoy the smiles of buyers? We would like to fill in a few holes in our rotation. You don’t have to stay for both services if we can get enough helpers. Its as simple as placing frozen dough on a sheet, baking and packaging.
If you would like to serve your church, please contact the church office by June 12 at 206.524.0024.
Please remember.... Many hands make the work light.
