Announcements
Congregational Meeting, January 23rd at 6 pm. The church council is putting together a recommended list of Assistant Pastor nominees for the congregation to review. According to Messiah’s By-Laws, any communicant member may offer a nomination at this meeting. The nomination must be adopted by a majority of voters present at the meeting for the name to be recognized as an official. All official nominees will then be voted on at a congregational meeting on February 13th.
We look forward to a large attendance at the congregational meeting on January 23rd as we make decisions that will affect the future of Messiah’s pastoral ministry. As usual, we ask that members bring a desert and we will bring the coffee. May the Lord bless our meeting and our congregation.
Neil Strege, President
Ladies Night Out - Ready for something light and luscious after the holiday indulgence? Ladie’s Night Out is going to Bai Pai Thai on Monday, January 17th at 6pm. RSVP to Bev Edmon.

Concordia is collecting “Labels for Education.” Pick up an extensive list of participating companies on the coffee bar. This is an easy way to support our school. Labels may be dropped off on the Concordia bulletin board. Thank You!
The cost of the poinsettias this year is $8.00. If you signed up to purchase a plant, please pay the church office, the flowers can be picked up downstairs in the Fellowship Hall.
There has been some confusion with the new office phones. When dialing the church if no one is in the main church office (Kathee or Hillary), you will hear a message on where to direct your call. If you want to leave a message for Pastor Lassman, dial 103. If you want to leave a message for the Vicar, his extension is 104. To leave a message for the office, press 0. At any time during the recording you can also enter the phone extension of the person you are trying to reach.

Today in Sunday School the children learned about Jesus’ Baptism in Matthew 3:13-17. At Jesus’ Baptism, God the Father announced that Jesus was His Son. The presence of the Holy Spirit also confirmed Jesus’ divinity. At our Baptism, God makes us His children through the work of the Holy Spirit. Let your children tell you the dramatic events of this story, and share with them that because of God’s wrath and anger over sin, the people were looking for a Savior. We, too, need a Savior because God is angry with our sin. But thanks be the God, who in His mercy makes clear at Jesus’ Baptism that we need look no more, for the Savior is here!
The seed of literary discussion is sown! Yi-Lin Lee of our congregation is leading a book study from Pastor Lassman’s book suggestions. The list of titles are found at www.messiahseattle.org and are accessed in a link to the right in the home page. Please contact Yi-Lin at admiralgoofball@gmail.com for the title recommendation and to help coordinate a place and time of discussion.
