The week of March 18, 2012
In our prayers we remember the family of Michael Gallagher on the death of his father, Walt.
The next quarter of Portals of Prayer are available for you to pick up on the upstairs and downstairs entry tables.
Mite Box Sunday Remember to bring your mite box next Sunday. You can place it in the basket on the usher’s station at the back of the sanctuary. Mites go to many worthy projects in our state and all over the world.
Messenger Deadline is today, Sunday, March 18.
Vacation Bible School is coming! Would you like to help? We are deciding on which week works best for all- July 23 to 27 or August 20 to 24. Please sign up on the upstairs bulletin board.
Pastor’s AIC class will meet this Thursday at 7:00PM with a study on “Jesus Christ”. (We learn who He is and what He’s done.) Walk-ins are always welcome.
Concordia University Choir from Portland, Oregon will be at Messiah on March 25 (Sunday) at 7:00PM. We are asking our families to provide housing for 49 people on Sunday night and prepare a sack lunch for Monday. So far we have beds for 13 people. If you can help, please sign up on the upstairs bulletin board.
Rev. Jonathan Huehn, Assistant Pastor of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Belvidere, Illinois, has accepted a Call as Associate Pastor to Christ Lutheran Church in Normal, Illinois. Pastor Huehn was Messiah’s fifth vicar, July 2007 to July 2008.
Today in Sunday School “The Widow’s Mite” serves as the focus of the Sunday School lesson for today. Just as the widow gave all she had to God, trusting Him to provide and care for her, so Jesus gave His all for us, who fail to trust in God for all things. Consider discussing, “How was the widow’s offering different from the others? How has God given us His greatest treasure?”
The Organ Committee will be looking at, listening to, and “inspecting” two organs starting at 2:30PM today, first at All Pilgrim’s Church (500 East Broadway) and the second at Greenlake Seventh Day Adventist Church (8350 East Greenlake Way North). The committee consists of Noel Channon, Barbara Sackett, Harry Edmon, Ron Redmond, and Josh Pemberton. Anyone wanting to know more about organs is more than welcome to come with us. Contact any of the Committee members before or after church today!

Lenten Dinner Offerings During this Lenten Season our traditional dinners will be continuing on Wednesday evening at 6:00PM. This year all profits from the free will offerings for the dinners will go toward funding for medicines and supplies for La Clinica de La Santa Cruz. Everyone is invited to attend and to support Doctor Orzoco in continuing to provide medical care to the people of Amatitlan, Guatemala. Alex Paeth met Dr. Orzoco in 2010 while doing mission work there. For more information, read the article in the April Messenger or talk to Alex Paeth.
If you are a member of Thrivent and had designated where you wanted your 2011 Choice Dollars to go, this is a reminder that the 2011 elections expire on March 31st. You will need to go online or call 800-THRIVENT and say “Thrivent Choice” to make your designations for 2012. This is a new policy and MUST be done each year, or your Choice Dollars will not be disbursed. There are many good causes, but certainly remember Messiah as one of your options.
For the month of March, we will be collecting women’s hygiene supplies for Immanuel Lutheran & Women’s Cascade Compass Center. Donations can be left in the upstairs lounge across from the cookie bar.
Ladies Night Out, March 26 at 6:00PM. Join us at Brier Pizza and Family Restaurant for Italian and Greek food. The garlic bread alone will make your tummy smile. Located at 23631 Brier Road, Brier 98036. RSVP to Bev Edmon.
